How we operate treks in Bhutan
Guided by Nature, Rooted in Culture with Purpose and Care
By combining local knowledge, sustainable practices, and a deep respect for Bhutan’s natural and cultural heritage, we create trekking experiences that are both memorable and responsible. Our trekking operations in Bhutan are designed to provide an authentic and immersive experience while ensuring the utmost safety and comfort for our guests. Here’s how we do it:
Unlike in many other places, trekking in Bhutan is a complete wilderness experience. All the trekking in Bhutan is arranged as camping trips. There are no options for small lodges or other means for shelter at night, unlike in many other countries. All accommodations are arranged in tents at designated campsite. Unlike in other countries, it is not possible to trek independently. All the treks has to be a guided trek and all the supplies inclusive of trained trekking chef, assiatants, horsemen, horses or yaks and a trained guide has to be arranged well ahead of time. Your supplies will be carried by Horses or Yaks as per your trek routes. Everyday the assistants and horsemen walk ahead of the trekking groups and keep things ready when the trekking group or individual arrive at the campsite, such as pitching the tents, keeping a warm cup of tea or coffee ready. The horses and Yaks are always from the local community. All the personal items of the trekkers such as backpack consisting of your camera, toileteries, personal clothing and water bottle will have to be carried by the trekker themselves.
Trekking in Bhutan demands a good level of physical fitness looking into which trek you are doing. It is also important that the trekkers are adventurous enough as the facilities provided shall not be comparable with what is provided during a tour in Bhutan.
Bhutan Trekking Crew & Local Expertise
In addition to our well experienced, trained and certified Trekking Guide and Trekking Chef, we collaborate with experienced local assistants, Yaks and horsemen who possess deep knowledge of Bhutan’s terrain, culture, and traditions.
